1954 - Prior to becoming The King, Elvis Presley recorded a 10-minute demo tape at a Memphis Recording Studio.
1963 - With folksinger Odetta by his side, Bob Dylan flew from London to Rome in pursuit of then-girlfriend Suze Rotolo. Once there, he learned Rotolo already returned to the USA, so he booked a gig at a folk club in Rome. It is there that he wrote Girl from the North Country and Boots of Spanish Leather.
1970 - B.J. Thomas scored a No. 1 hit with Raindrops Keep Fallin on My Head. The song found more fans when it appeared in the Paul Newman film, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
1977 - Led Zeppelin settled in at Emerson Lake & Palmers studio, where they rehearsed for a North American tour.
1978 - The Sex Pistols landed in the U.S., making their debut at Atlantas Great Southeast Music Hall.
1998 - Rep. Sonny Bono (R-Calif.), the other half of duo Sonny and Cher, died after sustaining head injuries following a skiing accident at the age of 62.
2005 - Danny Sugerman, who served as the longtime manager of the Doors, died at the age of 50 after a long battle with cancer.
