1956 - Elvis Presley's breakthrough hit "Love Me Tender" hit the No. 1 position on the Billboard charts. Elvis became the first artist to follow himself into the No. 1 position, after "Don't Be Cruel/Hound Dog" held the top spot for 11 weeks.
1972 - The United States Council for World Affairs adopted the Who song, "Join Together" as its official theme.
1977 - Nevermind The Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols was released in the U.S.
