1967 - Doors frontman Jim Morrison was arrested during a concert in New Haven, Connecticut. Police charged the singer with disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.

1971 - Richie Havens landed a part in the orchestral stage version of The Who's classic musical Tommy.

1972 - Elton John released "Crocodile Rock."

1974 - George Harrison issued the first album on his own Dark Horse label, appropriately titled Dark Horse.

1978 - John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's version of "Soul Man" was released under their musical moniker, "The Blues Brothers."

1992 - Bill Wyman departed the Rolling Stones after playing with the group for over 30 years.

1995 - The Beatles' "Free as a Bird" debuted during a six-hour documentary on ABC that chronicled the Fab Four's career. The song marked the group's first new song in a quarter of a century.
