1968 - Tommy James and the Shondells released their classic song "Crimson & Clover."

1972 - New York's department store  Alexander's stayed open past normal business hours to allow Alice Cooper to do his Christmas shopping.

1972 - The Ringo Starr-directed Born to Boogie, a concert film featuring Marc Bolan and T. Rex and starring Elton John, debuted in London.

1974 - Styx released the single "Lady."

1980 - Yoko Ono made a request for a 10-minute worldwide silent vigil to commemorate her late husband John Lennon, who was gunned down six days earlier in front of their home at the Dakota in New York City. More than 100,000 people headed to New York's Central Park to honor her request.

1985 - James Taylor married actress Kathryn Walker.

1986 - Elton John recorded a live cut of his song "Candle in the Wind."

1995 - The White House released classified documents that showed the FBI had spied on John Lennon amidst his anti-war activities in the early 1970s for the purpose of having the ex-Beatle deported.

1999 - Paul McCartney performed at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, marking the first time he had played at the venue since 1963.
