Lennon Featured in New Car Ad
Sean Lennon, the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, has explained that his mother approved video of the former Beatle for a car commercial in order to keep him "in the public consciousness."
The clip, which shows Lennon in his days with the Fab Four, is used in an advertisement for the Citroen DS3.
After fans registered criticism on Sean's Twitter page, he came out in defense of his mother, saying she did it not for the money but to give some needed exposure to the music legend.
"She did not do it for money. Has to do w hoping to keep dad in public consciousness. No new LPs, so TV ad is exposure to young," Sean wrote.
He later added, "Look, TV ad was not for money. It's just hard to find new ways to keep dad in the new world. Not many things as effective as TV."
A later Twitter message reaffirmed Sean's claim that money was not the reason for the ad, but in it he admitted that he only just saw the commercial.
"Having just seen ad I realize why people are mad," he wrote. "But intention was not financial, was simply wanting to keep him out there in the world."
